Before I get to this week’s plan, here are a few of the great eats I’ve been testing for The Urban Vegan :
Delicious cinnamon-date scones
And to round things out, some Chana Dal served on homemade paratas. I obviously can’t give you the tester recipe for the Chana Dal, but you can see the recipe for the paratas here in French, or wait until tomorrow for the English version.
Did you see who was sneaking into my Kheer photo shoot?
I was taking the shot and wondered what had fallen onto the table…baby lady birds! Or lady bugs, or cute bugs that announce spring! Happy.
Monday : Easy-Peasy Pasta – watch for this very kid-friendly recipe on Thursday.
Tuesday : Balsamic Baked Beans (an U.V. tester recipe) and sweet potato fries.
Wednesday : French Fry Soup. This is going to be an experiment, and I promise to share the results if it turns out!
Thursday : Spaghetti and bean balls. I usually use the wonderful recipe for bean balls in VCON, but I’m out of gluten flour. It’s all gone, kids, and apparently I cannot get any unless I order it via the net…and I’m not going to do that. Have any of you made the recipe without the gluten to hold it together? Do you have other bean ball recipes you like that don’t call for gluten flour? Do tell!
Friday : Pizza Night! Wee! If I’m feeling frisky I may even make a dessert pizza Friday. Maybe. Can’t be getting to crazy now, can we?
Do you blog your weekly meal plans? Let me know, I’d love to link to your plan to share the planning mojo with everyone. And don’t forget, if you’re looking for meal plan inspiration you can visit the MPM archives.
I simply want to tell you that I am just new to blogs and actually enjoyed your blog. Almost certainly I’m want to bookmark your site . You amazingly have very good article content. Appreciate it for sharing with us your web-site.
I had no idea that there was another Urban Vegan book in the works, those scones look delicious. I’m intrigued by this french fry soup you speak of, I hope it turns out.
Great eats! Is the ladybug a harbinger of spring?? Oh, if only I saw one over here. . .! Love dal. Can’t wait to see the french fry soup! 😉
I really liked the scones even though for me they were a little sweet. You should try them with dates!
They were really yummy & I love dates!
All of you UV testers are making me jealous, can’t wait for this book!
Can’t wait to hear how the French fry soup turns out.
I recommend the garbanzo-balls from this soup recipe, though they are chicken-y not beefy. They hold together perfectly, even the leftovers that sat overnight in the fridge directly in broth stayed in tact. http://www.ordinaryvegetarian.com/2010/03/creamy-garbanzo-ball-and-wild-rice-soup.html
french fry soup?? I’m curious!
We’ll see if it’s a brilliant idea, or a flop tomorrow…
I love Veganomicon spaghetti and bean balls! I found a recipe for gluten free chickpea patties that uses xanthan gum. Could you just use flour? I also saw this bean ball recipe on No Meat Athlete: http://www.nomeatathlete.com/spaghetti-and-bean-balls/. I would love to see your dessert pizza!
Xanthan gum would probably work, but we’re living in a provençal little southern village, so I can’t get that either. 😦 Thanks for the link – that looks like what I’m going to be doing, just the VCON recipe sans gluten. Will let you know how it turns out!
Hey there,
I’ve tried these bean balls and found they stayed together pretty well:

The blog has a few other meatless balls of interest too 🙂
I love Jessy’s recipes! I love making the tempeh recipe, too. Glad to see you’re also a fan.
i use the recipe for black eyed pea & tempeh beanballs from appetite for reduction.
would a small amount of breadcrumbs do the trick?
The recipe already calls for bread crumbs, so I’m thinking no…I might use some tahini. I wish I had me some tempeh! Lucky you 😉
Looks like a tasty week. I use eggs and cheese in my meatless balls recipe, sorry. 😦 I have had the bean balls from VCON and those are tasty. Dessert pizza sounds wonderful!
I’m probably going to try to use tahini & extra bread crumbs, or maybe some rice. And woot for dessert pizzas!
