W.I.P. Wednesday : Something with hearts.

Summer holidays, how I love thee! I fully admit to being MIA from the blogosphere, but it’s for such a good reason : Sunshine! After nearly 9 months of rain we’re finally drying out and enjoying a beautiful sun. In fact, there have only been a few rainy days since the beginning of summer holidays two weeks ago.

I have been keeping up with my favourite blogs, but please don’t be sadfaced if you’ve not been receiving comments as per my usual – I’m just trying my best to be a full-time mostly-on-vacation mum to one very energetic 4 year-old who would so enjoy having a back garden to play in! As some of you know, we live in a tiny flat in the city, so from the moment Guppy is fed and dressed we pretty much head out the door for the park or the forest or the castle grounds…taking advantage of some real quality time together since school is (mostly) out for both of us.

Enough blahblah!

You may remember I gave you a sneak peak at the gifts I was working on for Guppy’s teachers. Well, let’s just say that I wasn’t getting the embroidery done fast enough and I found myself the day before the last day of school with the gifts not completed. I then made an executive decision to change plans and just make two cute little pencil-case sized pouches and fill them with vegan chocolate. I asked Guppy how she felt about this and her only reply was, “Make something with hearts.”. Ok, fair enough.

Something with hearts

Because I don’t have any fabric with hearts on it I had to go with the appliqué method, which looked really cute I think. I just cut out two hearts per trousse – one larger in purple vegan felt, the other in lavender cotton.

Something with hearts

I hope they liked them. Or at least the chocolate in them!

Something with hearts, interior

Don’t you love the wonderful blurry hurry-up-take-the-picture-we’re-late-for-school picture quality? You know you do! It’s like a crazy-crafting action movie I tell you.

Having Guppy at home with me all day has really put a few speed-bumps in my crafting time, mostly because she just needs to get outside and play. I’m sure once the rain is back I’ll be crafting up a real storm again…

Are you crafting away, despite the beautiful sunshine and warm temps? Whatever your works-in-progress, have a crafty week, and don’t forget to see what the other Wipsters are up to, and to check out our W.I.P. Wednesday Flickr Pool, too.

  1. I just adore your crafts! I looked at the inside of that pouch and thought, “I have a Shellyfish original, lined pouch as well–ha ha!!” I’m sure the teachers loved theirs, too. 🙂

  2. Wow, those little bags are SO cute! I love that fabric..it’s really cute. And I love the hearts. You have a great eye for color..it’s really a great fabric/color combination. Good for you for taking the time to be outside and with Guppy…you will not regret it I know for sure! Very cute scissors too =)

And it’s great that you do the vegan lasagna too..I’m so glad that I have a no-fail dish to impress omnis finally. Hope for many quiet days for your computer and lots of funshine for you and Guppy this week!

  3. Glad to imagine you both running free in the sun. I would love a huge lawn to just run and run and run.

Speaking of love, those pencil cases are tres magnifique. I hope you will considering selling in Etsy in the future. (Hint, hint) 🙂

  4. Aww, glad you guys are having such a fun summer! Here in DC its been rainy all summer, but just in the last week its become gorgeous and sunny everyday. I just have to study outside!

Her teachers are for sure going to love those pencil cases, they are precious. Where’d ya get the adorable vegan chocolates?

  5. I’m glad you’re out enjoying the sun… and seriously, you NEED to get away – lol. You tell Mr. Fish that you need a night away, or a couple of nights away with a girlfriend. It’s good for the soul. And it’s so fun to come back home and see the excitement on the kids faces when you reappear. Grace on Monday night came up to me and said “I want to sit beside you”. And honestly, I’ve been getting the BEST hugs for the past two days 🙂 You miss them like crazy when you’re away but it makes coming home oh so sweet.

  6. ugh… so this is totally me being a ridiculous complainer but our spring has slipped away and reminded us we live in the desert! Hehe… crafting in extreme temperatures while also trying to satisfy my cooking/baking desires has left guava sweaty and with no motivation to get betty (dressform) and baxter (sewing machine) out for some exercise…

    but the sun is wonderful!!!

Bags look great… and those aren’t blurry they’re artistic… that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

  7. Now, I’m almost sorry I brought you the sun before the end of the school: hadn’t I done that, the rainy days may have given you enough time to finish the first project you had started… Ok, ok, I’m just kidding!
You came up with a great last minute idea: those lovely pencil cases filled with yummy chocolate made for an adorable gift!

I’m glad you’re still having beautiful weather – stay outside, enjoy it with Guppy, and don’t worry about the blogosphere!

  8. I love those little pouches! I have some adorable vintage cat fabric and I didn’t have enough to really make anything with it, so I made little pouches like that- everyone loves them. Except mine aren’t filled with chocolate… Drats.
