This is a very exciting year for me : I’m turning 35 in January ‘09! So far I have loved my 30’s and am anticipating everything I want to accomplish throughout this milestone year.

In my teens and 20’s, I compiled lists of things I felt I had to hurry up and get done before it was too late… I’m so glad that’s over! This is a growing list of things I’ve been kicking around or contemplating, and am really looking forward to trying.

In no particular order :

  • Run my first marathon. (This was scheduled for the Marathon de Paris in April, but since breaking my foot & tearing ligaments in a cycling accident in November, this will probably be pushed back a bit, but still more than feasible in ‘09!)
  • Make my first quilt.
  • Get a new tattoo. (I know what I want. I’ve wanted it for a while, but tattoos aren’t cheap.)
  • 300 Poem Project – The idea is simple, I intend to write 365 300 poems this year. Sometimes you need to be flexible with your goals, people!
  • Learn to knit. (This was a 2008 wish that didn’t come true, but it’s what led me to learning to sew!)
  • Learn to crochet. (Same here)
  • Sew something fabulous with fabric I print myself.
  • Learn to paint.
  • Read all the works of a given author. The problem is I don’t know who to chose. I need to make my mind up and get organized, though. My only criteria are that it must be a woman and the works must be available in paperback. Any suggestions? I’ve already done this with a few authors, but it’s been a long time…it’s loads of fun (am I too easily amused?).
  • Make myself a dress & a pair of pants. I just recently made Guppy some pants, and that’s cool, but I want to know how to make my own clothes.
  • Work on my sewing skills. My secret dream for 2010 is to open my own Etsy shoppe with “doudous” (stuffed animals/dolls) and little pouches, sacs, etc. Right now I need to work on expanding and perfecting my seamstress skills.

This is an awesome list!! That would be soooo cool to make your own clothes. And best of luck with the marathon (once your foot heals)…. they are exhilarating!

My suggestion is Maya Angelou. I once checked out all of her books from the library and read each one in chronological order. Now I own them because they are just that good. Don’t forget her poetry. She is one of my heroes.

I did think of Maya Angelou – I think she (as a person) is really amazing, but I would want to read her in English, not in translation. I may bite the bullet and order a few books from the US! :)

What about Gertrude Stein? A tall order, but… OOoooh! Or Simone de Beauvoir!

Great list. I am definitely going to learn how to knit this year. I have a beginner class in two weeks, I am suoper excited about it. I hope to learn to crochet as well.

I did my first marathon last year. I ran and walked it. I was 4 weeks pregnant with Adam, so I took it easy. It was a great accomplishment for me. If I never do another one again, I can at least say I did one in my lifetime.

The reading books by one author is great. Right now we are reading one author, Dr. Seuss. :)

Too bad I’m not around to show you how to knit, its really very easy! (Not to mention insanely addictive.) A book I like on knitting is “Stitch and Bitch” by Debbie Stoller, which has great illustrations. http://www.knithappens.com/content/view/13/1/

    Good luck!

    Anias Nin? Joke..
Is there a female french equivalent of Henry Rollins? Sort of a self publishing old school punk writer?
I don’t know enough about what’s written in french to advise. Im sure you’ll pick someone great.
Instead of stein … what about Alice B.? did she write?

Have you read Anna Gavalda’s books yet? I love her! A more classical read would of course be Françoise Sagan with Bonjour tristesse… A favorite is Marie Despleshin’s and her book Sans moi, though I read it in Swedish! :-)

And knitting and crocheting is not difficult. I went into a yarn shop and bought yarn and needles and asked the lady there to show me how to cast on and knit, and then I went home and started my practice… You can do it on your own, today!!!

    I need a BIG LIST too…
